Time is a Gift
Updated: Apr 14, 2020
As you will see by the date, a couple paragraphs down, I started this blog back in mid-April and since then I have been back to the Mayo for follow up scans. My PSA has continued to rise and is up to 1.6 despite the surgery, hormone therapy and eight weeks of radiation. The scans on this most recent trip showed some worrisome results (words from the Radiologist) on the L2 and L3 of my vertebrae, and also abdominal lymph nodes. My urologist was not convinced that the results were conclusive enough to start any new treatments. The plan is now to come back June 18thto see if the PSA is in the range of 3.0-5.0, and then redo all the scans. The news was bittersweet as I am grateful and thankful for the additional time being treatment free, but at the same time we know that there is cancer still there and we are waiting on it to grow so we can find it and target it with aggressive treatment.
As the journey continues I am very cognizant of how precious time is. I am thankful to God for His faithfulness and His grace. I am confident that this health journey is a vehicle that God can and has used to point people to Him. God is sufficient no matter what we go through, 2 Corinthians 12:9-11 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” WOW!! Talk about faith! Not many have gone through tribulations like Paul the Apostle and were able to declare that kind of steadfastness in His trust in God. What a spectacular example of God’s faithfulness.
Having cancer keeps me in the realization that life is fragile and that we are not in control of our lives. Each breath that we take is a gift from God and we should never take it for granted. Each day God gives is a blessing and an opportunity to share Him with the world.
God Bless You…and if there is anything I can do to help you in your journey please do not hesitate to reach out to me anytime.
